HORTICULTURAL TRADE SHOW FEATURES LOCAL LANDSCAPER

[January 2012] — R&S Landscaping was one of the featured presenters at the 16th annual Plant-O-Rama at the Brooklyn Botanic Garden.

R&S’s signature Eco Earth Design approach, developed by Robert Schucker, president of R&S Landscaping, and his staff by using the latest in eco friendly practices, provides low-impact outdoor design by focusing on the installation of green roof systems, ecologically sensitive outdoor solutions, water efficient irrigation design and installation and bio-diverse landscape design.

“Every year Plant-O-Rama, brings together some of the best and brightest horticultural minds in the Tri-State Area,” said Schucker. “Our staff looks forward to interacting with attendees, learning about their biggest challenges, and helping them overcome their hurdles to create a green roof or landscape design that works best for their home or business.”

Hosted by Metro Hort Group, an association of horticultural professionals in the New York City Tri-State region, the all-day event featured a number of illustrated talks on rare and exceptional plants, as well as a horticultural trade show that provided attendees with information from top nurseries, garden suppliers and public gardens.

This year’s keynote speaker was Dr. Michael A. Dirr, author of The World According to Dirr: In Praise of Noble Trees and Shrubs and the brand new book Dirr’s Encyclopedia of Trees & Shrubs, promoted to be “the most comprehensive, best-illustrated, and most authoritative reference to trees and shrubs for gardens and landscapes” by the Metro Hort Group.

Dirr, a highly respected horticulturalist regarded as a leading expert in the horticultural community, has written more than 300 published papers and articles since his teaching career began in 1972. He is the recipient of an array of horticultural and teaching awards and is currently a professor of horticulture at the University of Georgia.

“We are proud to participate in this event again this year,” said Schucker, “and the appearance of Dr. Michael Dirr is a testament to the importance of this event to the Greater New York area.”
